Baby Elephant (1960)

Billy Smart’s Circus Training Quarters at Winkfield and Windsor Zoo, Berkshire. C/U looking down on a girl, Penny Smart (granddaughter of Billy), lying on her back on the ground; camera zooms in to extreme C/U of her face. C/U of an adult elephant being led along by a man. M/S as the elephant being led to Penny who is lying down on a mat, wearing a pink jumper, tiny blue tutu fishnet tights and white stilettos. The elephant, Birma, lifts her left leg which Penny pushes away, then her right leg which Penny takes hold of and holds above her head. Commentator tells us this dangerous trick is part of an act Penny does with Birma, and the practise is part of the special instruction being given to baby Gigi who is still learning the business. Gigi, a very cute baby elephant, is led on by another man and Penny gets up to greet her. Nice C/U of some small boys watching.
