Kuchipudi Kuchipudi is a Traditional & Popular Indian classical dance style. Emerging from a rich dance drama tradition, Kuchipudi was popularised by Padmabhushan Vempati Chinna Satyam. Kuchipudi is originally the name of a village in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, 35 kms from Vijayawada. It is believed that in the 17th century Kuchipudi style of Yakshagaana was conceived by Siddhendra Yogi, a talented Vaishnava poet and visionary. Guided by Teerthanaaraayana Yogi who composed the Krishna Leela Tarangini. Siddhendra Yogi had initiated young Brahmin boys of Kuchipudi village to practice and perform his compositions particularly Bhaamaakalaapam. Kuchipudi Dance was performed in front of the Nawab of Golconda, Abdul Hasan Tanishah and he was so impressed that he issued a copper plate in 1675 A.D. granting the village Kuchipudi to the families of Brahmins who pursued this art.
