Sinéad O’Connor, an Irish singer, passed away yesterday at the age of 56. The family of the singer released a statement in which they said, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad.“ Her family and friends are heartbroken, and they have asked that their privacy be respected during this extremely trying time. The renowned Dublin performer has put out a total of ten studio albums, with her song “Nothing Compares 2 U“ being recognised by the Billboard Music Awards as being the number one single in the world in the year 1990. Shane, her son, passed away last year at the age of 17. Sinead O’Connor changed her name to Shuhada Sadaqat in 2018, after converting to Islam. However, she continued to perform under the name Sinead O’Connor. Ms. O’Connor published her autobiography, titled Rememberings, the following year in 2021, and in the previous year, Kathryn Ferguson directed a film based on her life. She revealed that she suffered from three different mental diseases and felt isolated when she was unable to care for her son Shane, who was 13 years old, by posting a heartfelt video on her Facebook page in August of 2017. She went on to say that she had had suicidal thoughts for a number of years and that her psychiatrist and her primary care physician were the only things keeping her alive. She begged for someone in her family to take care of her and stated that she was “one of millions“ who are stigmatised due to their mental illness. She said that she was ashamed of her mental condition. O’Connor’s legacy will go on through her three offspring.
