«Animated Frescoes» Pas de Quatre from the ballet «The Little Humpbacked Horse» (Vaganova Technique)

Technically challenging & artistically demanding is the «Animated Frescoes» Pas de Quatre from the ballet «The Little Humpbacked Horse» Created by Arthur Saint-Léon for the Imperial Ballet (today the Mariinsky theatre), the original ballet which was based on the folk tale of the same name premiered in 1864 to the music of Cesare Pugni. In 1895, Marius Petipa restaged the ballet. As the story goes, the scene from where the legendary «Animated Frescoes» Pas de Quatre comes from takes place in Central Asia as the figures are brought to life from painted Frescoes.
