RFK Jr.: 100 Years Later, Corporate Money Is Still Rigging Elections

On the Pierre’s Panic Room podcast, @ComicPierre and I discuss how corporate money rigging elections became permissible in this country. In the early 1900’s, Congress passed a law making it illegal for corporations to fund federal political campaigns. A hundred years later, the Supreme Court reversed that with the Citizens United decision, which gave corporations the green light to spend unlimited sums to convince people to vote for or against a political candidate. Since then, a tsunami of money has poured into Washington from pharmaceutical companies, military contracts, and the oil, coal, and chemical industries. Corporate money has bought our elected officials, and everybody knows the system is rigged. There’s nobody left in this country who believes that our voices are being heard in Washington, D.C. Today, the institutions of democracy resemble a Hollywood stage set; it’s pretend. When I’m president, that will change—and I promise you that your voice will once again be heard.
