July 27: While you were sleeping, Canada’s Kylie Masse wins silver Olympic medal in the 100m backstroke swimming event, following Australia’s Kaylee McKeown for gold. In softball, Team Canada beat Mexico to win bronze to make Olympic history and win the first ever medal for Canada in softball. In judo; a day after Jessica Klimkait became the first Canadian woman to win an Olympic medal in judo, Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard won a bronze medal against Venezuela’s Anriquelis Barrios. In tennis; torchbearer Naomi Osaka’s Olympic dreams end after losing to Markéta Vondroušová from the Czech Republic. And finally, we meet our first-ever Olympic surf champions: Ítalo Ferreira, Kanoa Igarashi, Owen Wright, Bianca Buitendag, Amuro Tsuzuki. Plus, a typhoon’s heading to Japan.
