AI ’stole’ our voices. Actors show CNN comparison of their voices and alleged ‘illegal’ AI versions

Voice actors Linnea Sage and Paul Skye Lehrman say they recorded their voices for a client who hired them for “academic research” and “tests for radio ads.” Years later, the couple were shocked to discover “AI versions” of their voices. In a video demonstration, they showed CNN’s Clare Duffy why they believe their voices were “stolen.” The voice actors’ lawsuit against Lovo, the company they claim is behind the AI voices, is just the latest in a recent string of legal actions brought against various tech companies by creatives, writers and artists who say their work was used without their permission to train AI systems that could ultimately compete with them. Such lawsuits have added to a growing wave of concerns over how the training of AI models, which requires huge swaths of data, could run afoul of copyright and intellectual property laws.
