Best Drum Solo Ever - Transcription

Came across this drum solo in the YouTube shorts and I just knew I had to transcribe it. This Fantastic excerpt is by Dannie Richmond taking a solo in the tune, So long Eric with the Charles Mingus Sextet. ——— Thoughts on the solo: Although this video may come across as a funny moment in drums history, it is quite a genius solo. For starters, the solo has a very wide dynamic range. The dynamics really make this an incredibly unique solo. Secondly, his rhythmic language is quite simple yet sticks to the conventions of a jazz drummers improvisatory language. Lastly, this solo is so well executed that it really shows the rawness and personality of Dannie Richmond. To sum it up, you don’t need a shredding solo to make something fun and meaningful. Sometimes short and simple solos can be more impressive than crazy choppy ones. Ps. I think there is a 2 best discrepancy somewhere in the transcription but too late to fix it now… ——— #aldorrmusic #drums #improvisation #transcription Original performance: Original meme video: Aldo D.
