“ HIGHLITES OF THE NEWS “ 1920s ANTI-AIRCRAFT & ARMOR EXERCISES FORT TILDEN, NEW YORK XD49434b

Want to support this channel and help us preserve old films? Visit Visit our website This short film released by the William J. Ganz Co. of New York was one of a series of films made for “toy“ 16mm film projectors. These toy projectors were equipped with standard light bulbs and could be used by children without much risk of accident, as they didn’t generate high heat. The film starts with footage of anti-aircraft guns being exercised at Fort Tilden, New York. Barrage balloons are evident in the sky. At 1:20, a dirigible or zeppelin is visible. At 1:37, a large optical rangefinder is used to adjust fire at the “enemy planes“. At 2:24, tanks are seen silhouetted against star shells and incendiary bombs. The film ends with an aerial shot of the battlefield. Motion picture films don’t last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we’ve worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you’d like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we’d love to hear from you. Contact us via the weblink below. This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD, 2k and 4k. For more information visit
