The Yardbirds - Heart Full Of Soul (1968) 4K

The Yardbirds performing “Heart Full Of Soul“, released originally in 1968. It reached #2 in UK Singles Chart, #2 in Canada Top Singles, #9 in US Billboard Hot 100 and #12 in US Cash Box Top Single. “Heart Full Of Soul“ was written by Graham Gouldman, who also wrote hits for other bands such as The Hollies, Cher, The Shadows and Herman’s Hermits. Yardbirds drummer Jim McCarty called the song moody, and noted that the arrangement incorporated an Eastern touch, thanks to Jeff Beck’s sitar-sounding guitar playing. The use of a fuzz box on Beck’s lead guitar part was also an early example of the technique. The original arrangement for the song called for a sitar playing the lead guitar part, but Beck’s sitar-sounding guitar proved to be more effective. The roots of sitar blended into rock can be traced back to November 1964, when Brian Auger engineered the first recording of “Heart Full of Soul“ by the Yardbirds. An authentic Indian sitar player was brought into the studio, but Jeff Beck ultimately stood in and used his fuzz machine with a tone blender that created a similar sound. The Yardbirds were an English rock band formed in the 1960s. In addition to “Heart Full Of Soul“, they also had hits with “Evil Hearted You“ and “For Your Love“, all written by Graham Gouldman.
