This tutorial is packed full of tips & exercises that will help you when it comes to incorporating arm movements into your performance. The focus is on soft, flowing & elegant arms. Please enjoy! Why do we use arms in performance Irish dance? - They can enhance your choreography & overall performance. - Emotionally, they can add to the storytelling aspect of your performance. - They can add light & shade to your performance, helping you to connect more with your music & audience. - Using your arms encourages you to use your whole body when performing! Why not be a good all round performer? Your goal? You want your arm work to really compliment your dancing & not take away from it. The movements should slot in seamlessly. This will help your audience feel at ease as they watch you. Lots to think about: - Set yourself up with that perfect posture first! - Your arms are like flowing water in these drills. - Think of your shoulder, down to your finger tips as ONE unit. Don’t flex or lead with the wrist. - Heavy shoulders. - How do your hands & fingers look? Tip - Practice, film yourself, watch yourself, experiment... This will help you to build confidence in your arm work & increase your awareness! Once you get the basics, then you can slowly add more layers.
