On 14th and 15th April 2021 I was invited to take part in a short video for CGTN to be filmed in eastern Hainan’s Bo’ao in the run-up to the 2021 Bo’ao Forum for Asia. Abby had been doing a series of programmes in Hainan to mark the Forum and I had been invited to join her earlier, but due to the day job I was, unfortunately, unable to do so. The show features a little-known side to Bo’ao - that of horse riding. Broadcast on 21st April 2021 with English subtitles. This is what Abby had to say about our programme: ’Equestrian tradition in China might date back several millennia. But only after 2008, when the equestrian competitions of the Beijing Olympic Games were held in Hong Kong, did Chinese people start to rediscover horse riding as a sport.
