“Wednesday, 12 July On just under 180 kilometres, the 11th stage of the Tour de France leads from Clermont-Ferrand to Moulins. There are manageable hills in the first half, mostly flat roads in the second. Rémi Cavagna is one of the 148,000 inhabitants of Clermont-Ferrand. The time trial specialist is aptly nicknamed the ’TGV of Clermont-Ferrand’. In 2022, a Tour stage was also started in Clermont-Ferrand. But the race then went to Lyon, where Søren Kragh Andersen was celebrated. The Dane won solo. This time it looks good for the sprinters. The course is mostly flat to hilly. Three times there is a small climb in the way - Côte de Chaptuzat (1.9 kilometres at 5%), Côte de Mercurol (2.9 kilometres at 4.9%), Côte de la Croix Blanche (1.6 kilometres at 5.4%) - but after that the course is pretty flat. So the sprinter teams should be able to manage this parcours without any problems. The finish is in Moulins, and for the last 1.3 kilometres the road is dead straight. This is of course perfect to get the different sprint trains on the course. The Tour has never stopped in Moulins, but Paris-Nice has visited the small town in central France many times.
