Digging Deeper into NaziGate

The University of Alberta and its Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies has received over $1.4 million in endowments and donations dedicated to more than 10 veterans of the 14th Waffen-SS. The University announced it was returning a $30,000 donation made on behalf of Yaroslav Hunk who was recently applauded by Parliament. Yesterday Governor General Mary Simon apologized for the Order of Canada bestowed on Peter Savaryn who co-founded the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies. What role has this Institute of Ukrainian Studies played in whitewashing the 14th Waffen-SS, Ukrainian nationalism and Canada’s geopolitical conflict with the USSR/Russia? On Talking foreign policy: an internationalist perspective on Canada’s role abroad, I interviewed Per Anders Rudling, professor of History at Lund University in Sweden, who has been writing about this issue for over a decade.
