Several dead after fireworks explosion in India

A devastating fireworks explosion has killed at least three people and injured more than 30 more after a festival in Puri, Odisha went horribly wrong. Hundreds of devotees were celebrating the annual Chandan Yatra festival at the Lord Jagannath temple with the traditional firework display when a freak, stray ‘splinter’ fell onto the pile of fireworks, igniting them all at once. The huge explosion saw people diving into the Narendra Pushkarinee (the temple reservoir) to escape the fire and out-of-control fireworks shooting directly into the crowd. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that the state would bear all medical expenses to treat those injured in the tragedy. Puri Superintendent of Police Pinak Mishra said that ‘our priority is to provide treatment to the injured and then we will look into the other matters.’ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Freedom over censorship, truth over narrative.
