On Dec 5, 1952 a thick fog descended on the streets of London. The thick green fog left black soot on everything it touched and lasted for four days. In the following days, months and years nearly 12,000 people died from the effects of the fog. It was recently determined that a bizarre atmospheric condition caused the unusually dense fog to hold in gasses from burning coal creating a haze of sulfuric acid.
