‘Clones’, Ash’s first single from Top 5 album ‘Meltdown’, was released as an Internet-only download in February 2004 and went straight to number 1 in the newly created download charts. ‘Meltdown’ - the band’s fourth full length album - was produced by Foo Fighters producer Nick Rasculinecz and recorded at Sound City Studios, the birthplace of Nirvana’s Nevermind.
During the writing of ‘Meltdown’ Ash were asked to provide music for LucasArt’s game Star Wars: Republic Commando, by complete fluke the band had just demoed ‘Clones’. ‘Clones’ featured in the game and Ash played a set, which includes ‘Cantina Band’, at the games launch party in London’s Leicester Square.
The dark and gritty performance video was directed by Jeff Thomas and shot in East End London with the band drenched by a crew member with hose between takes.
