Joe Turner and his Memphis Men, “Freeze and Melt“

Duke Ellington, April 14, 1929.... Columbia 1813-D. Wellman Braud plays what is generally considered the first recorded String Bass solo. Arthur Whetsel, Freddy Jenkins, Cootie Williams, Joe Nanton, Johnny Hodges, Harry Carney, Barney Bigard, Fred Guy, Wellman Braud, Sonny Greer. This is my first 78 post to YouTube, and I’m deliberately keeping it simple. This is like playing a record at a jazz club meeting, no Noise Reduction, no cutaways. For future uploads I’ll have some pretty pictures... :-) (and no hum...)
