Princess Margaret Names Missionary Ship Roll 3 (1948)
Tower Pier, London.
Newspaper cuttings state through collections in Sunday schools children have always contributed largely to supporting the London Missionary Society’s long line of ships. Princess Margaret received from nearly 90 boys and girls purses of money collected by children in many parts of the world more than £70,000. A token gift from Africa was handed to the Princess by a young great-great-grandson Anthony Robins of the pioneer missionary John Williams (who was eaten by cannibals on the island of Erromanga). A girl presented for the Princess’ personal acceptance a handbag made in the Cook Islands from native materials. The Princess’ itinerary is also contained in the documentation.
