Chinese electric vehicles aid Ireland’s shift to clean energy

They’re calling it a ’movement’ with electric car sales surging here in Ireland. A shift away from gas-guzzling petrol cars to climate-friendly EVs is gathering pace. Driving that shift are environmental concerns, but also the recent cost of living crisis affecting everything from housing to fuel. Fully electric cars are around 50% cheaper to run, at just 11 cents per kilometre, when compared to their fossil fuel counterparts. While EVs are still expensive for many pockets, significant savings can be made in the long run. Joe Twomey is the latest Dublin resident to make the switch. BYD – Build Your Dreams – is a well-known brand in China, but launched in Ireland less than a year ago. Their impact has already been significant with the BYD Seal for example competing with the Tesla Model 3 at a lower price, and the BYD Dolphin coming in at around 25,000 U.S. dollars after the government grant. Range anxiety is being calmed too as Ireland’s Environment Minister Eamon Ryan has promised high-powered fast chargers every 60 km along Ireland’s main roads and beyond, a 100 million-dollar-plus investment. Electric vehicles still have a long road ahead, with annual global sales at 14 percent against traditional combustion-engine vehicles in 2022 for example. But signs of hope like those in Ireland point to a promising future. __________________ ShanghaiEye focuses on producing top-quality contents. Nobody knows SHANGHAI better than us.
