OLD RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHANTS

“Znamenny Chant“ is a series from the documentary series “Angelic Chants“ This film unravels the story of the ancient Russian church tradition of singing according to the znamenny notation. To understand what the Russian soul is, it is necessary to turn specifically to the church singing culture of the Middle Ages, because it was built on the natural melodic and speech features of the language, character, and mentality of the Russian people, and was a reflection of its best natural and moral qualities. This was well understood by the largest representatives of the national school of composition. Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninov, were inspired by the znamenny chant and openly quoted whole musical phrases in their works. The film seeks to show the viewer a series of ancient chants in the best modern performance in order to convey a sense of history through music. But this is just a fraction of that gigantic national heritage that once sounded everywhere in our open spaces, and now undeservedly forgotten lies in libraries and awaits new performers and new composers who can appreciate this truly great manifestation of the human spirit in music. engsubs 25fps 4K
