Make Ambient Like Basinski, Disintegration Loops

I set off to emulate Disintegration Loops by Basinski, using in the box digital methods. Free download of the effect chain There were 3 different attempts to get the effect to work. First off I tried to use effect chains, adding an extra Echo device for each chain to make it delay over and over. I got to 7 repeats and the CPU maxed out. Second I tried using audio channels, each fed from the previous one. This worked really well, the audio decayed in a Basinski style, but at about 14 channels the CPU maxed out. I did another version of the second attempt where I had 5 channels. When the sound left the first channel I set the input to the last channel, so that it just looped endlessly. This worked brilliantly, but it had to be done manually so I couldn’t use it to make a piece. Final thing that ended up as the piece was using a feedback loop in Ableton Live with the send effect. This did what I needed and could run for a whole track, I could automate it out at the end and all was good.
