Some tips on creating the Northern Lights

So I still had to speed it up a bit to fit the whole video, but I’m hoping it’s still slow enough where you can pick up some ideas or tips. Prints of these are available now in my shop 😊 • I use quick dry oil paints for these. You really have to play with consistency. Every color has a different consistency and they don’t spread in the same way, so getting to know your paints is important. Some may need a little linseed oil, but too much and you’ll blend too much. • The base is still wet when I apply the white. You can use a variety of brushes to apply the white. I encourage you to play with different ones, they will change the look you get. • I use the @princetonbrush 2” ASPEN MOTTLER • FLAT to gently swipe the white up. Make sure to wipe off the brush in between strokes and don’t get too heavy handed. • I then use @princetonbrush select artiste OVAL MOP • Select Wave Synthetic brush and a smaller mop brush to smooth out and add smaller details.
