Xiao Han, the twenty-third solar term in the twenty-four solar terms, falls between January 5th and 7th each year, when the Big Dipper points to Gui, and the sun is at the celestial longitude of 285 degrees. For China, this period coincides with the time around the “Sanjiu“ (the coldest days of the year), marking the beginning of the coldest days of the year.
