From the time when London was the centre of the universe for fashion and music, this 1966 track is utterly fab and groovy. ’A Touch Of Velvet - A Sting Of Brass’ isn’t strictly an instrumental as it has vocals provided by The Ladybirds, but since it has no words it has earned its place amongst the greatest instrumentals. It was written, arranged and produced by Mark Wirtz, a French-born record producer. This single was used as a theme tune for various radio and TV programmes around Europe including Dave Lee Travis’s Radio Caroline show in the 60s.
