There’s a new show about the SMO made in Donetsk — it’s called “The Reservists”. I haven’t seen it yet, but what I’ve heard so far gives the impression of a film project with a lot of heart. “It shows what things really were like, how did they even allow this to air?” is something I’m hearing a lot. SMO veterans were involved in the production of the show. It tells the story of young DPR conscripts early in 2022, fighting their way to Mariupol, being thrown into combat with the bare minimum of training & equipment (which is what actually happened in the Donbass Republics early in the SMO, when they were still described [and treated] as “Allied Forces”). It looks very promising, and I’ll be sure to give a detailed review after I’ve seen it. It’s great to see the war give birth to lasting culture, particularly in its fairly low-budget and “bottom-up” iteration — and it’s great that our young artists aren’t afraid to show the tragic and terrible sides of war, too.
