South Korea proposes overhaul to overtime rules but workers fear longer work week

Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here: The South Korean government is set to announce a labour reform bill next month which it hopes will give some flexibility to its workforce and help people. The bill replaces an existing 52-hour cap on the work week with a potential to work up to 69 hours a week, with the option to trade the overtime accrued for time off in the future. The government believes this means people will work less and have more time off in the long-run. However, not many people are convinced that South Korea’s notoriously long work hours and poor work-life balance will change for the better.
