Brar and Maupin – 23: What is Fascism? Why is it important to understand?

Reproduced from @CalebMaupinTV with thanks. When so many liberals have taken to describing anyone they disagree with as ’fascist’, we need to ask: What really is the essence of fascism? How is it related to monopoly capitalism? What is its relationship with crisis and war? Why do we tend to associate it with racism, xenophobia and other forms of scapegoating? What does the classic German experience teach us about why and how fascism becomes necessary for the ruling class? And what role does social democracy (the Labour party in Britain) play in facilitating the growth and triumph of fascist regimes? Why has there been no fascism in western Europe since WW2, and what is the significance of its appearance in oppressed countries in Asia and Latin America in the ’cold war’ period? With the introduction of increasingly repressive measures against protests and strikes, are we witnessing a creeping fascistisation in the imperialist heartlands today, and if so, why? And what should we be doing about it? ______________________________________________ Subscribe! Donate! Join us in building a bright future for humanity!
