Honda CR-V - "Sloth" more cheesy animal action TV ads

This was the launch TV commercial for the Honda CR-V and yet again i was confronted with an animal themed ad to direct. In Australia at the time, for some godforsaken reason there was an explosion of quirky animals in car ads, everything from chickens to camels!! So I got the one with the Sloth. The idea was pretty basic: that even the slowest and sleepiest animal on the planet would come alive and experience a life changing and swingin’ transformation when confronted with a sleek new Honda CR-V!!! The whole thing is ideologically disturbing and mind numbingly silly. Still, there was fun to be had making the commercial. The Sloth was a deft combination of midget actor in Sloth suit and cable controlled animatronics. The midget actor often liked to take his Sloth head off in between takes, light up a cigarette and hit on all the female crew members - quite a popular cast member if I recall. To add to the swingin’ vibe we used an old British KPM music library track form the late 60
