“It’s a death sentence,“ Palestinians in Gaza say after UNRWA funding halt

Displaced Palestinians in Gaza’s Rafah expressed fear and concern on Monday after several countries announced that they have paused funding for the UN Refugee Agency for Palestinians (UNRWA) after allegations by Israel that a dozen of its 13,000 staff in Gaza were involved in the Oct. 7 attack. While waiting to receive aid at a distribution point, many said that without UNRWA’s assistance, life in Gaza would be unsustainable. “This is a death sentence,“ says displaced Gazan Ahmed Al-Nahal. More than 10 countries, including major donors the United States and Germany, have halted their funding to the agency.
