“Yugoslavia“ - Russian song about NATO’s bombing Yugoslavia (Югославия)

“Yugoslavia“ is a Russian song from 1999 performed by 14-year-old Lena Katina, the future soloist of the pop group “Tatu“. The song was written to the words of the poetess Olga Zhuravleva by composer Alexander Voitinsky, who thus expressed his negative attitude towards the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. In 2004, Voitinsky said that “we shamefully refrained from participating in the war“, noting that he himself wanted to go to Yugoslavia, but was afraid of being killed. The meaning of the song, he said, is that “I asked for forgiveness for being such a coward.”
