The Banality of War | Dr. Helmut Scheben

Why do warmongers hate rational arguments and facts? Because these work against the dumbing down and infantilization of the masses, which is necessary for a bloody war. Therefore, the first victim of war is not only the truth but also rational argumentation. Those who are aware of the complexity of conflict genesis will not throw themselves into the fray with a bayonet at the end of a rifle, shouting hurrahs. Helmut Scheben’s essay on the value of neutrality in times of war (in German): Dr. Scheben recently published a good article on a topic I have long wanted to discuss, namely the idea that one can—or should—only be neutral when there is no war. Admittedly, it is a stupid idea, but there are people who seem to really believe this, as they argue that neutrality is no longer appropriate when there is an aggressor who must be punished. Mr. Scheben has dissected this argument and puts his finger on the sore spot, namely that at the beginning of a war, there are always lies upon lies.
