Stare polskie tango: ’Tango Milonga’ = ’Oh, Donna Clara !’

Polish authors: Jerzy Petersburski - composer and Andrzej Włast lyricist, wrote a new song for Stanisława Nowicka - a ’queen of tango’ and a singing star of cabaret Morskie Oko, Warsaw, for the opening night of a new season in September 1929. The song was titled ’Tango Milonga’ and within a few days became a huge success of the artists involved. Within a couple of months, a haunting refrain crossed borders and soon was published by Wiener-Verlag, however, with a completely different text and a new title: ’O
