Sometimes at night the ocean becomes like a starry sky. In science, this phenomenon is called the glow of the sea. Plankton and bacteria living in sea water cause the glow. This phenomenon has received the term “bioluminescence“ in biology. Most often, the ocean glows in the Bay of Biscay (Spain, France) and the Gulf of the Arabian Sea (Indian Ocean). Off the coast of Russia, this phenomenon can often be found in the Sea of Okhotsk, and sometimes in the Black Sea.
