Dance, celebration and resistance | Wawi20years

In Wawi Indigenous Land (Mato Grosso state, Brazil), the Khĩsêtjê people sing and dance until dawn to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their traditional territory retaking. More than two hundred people gathered themselves at ngo, the men’s house in the center of Khinkatxi village to remember the elders’ fight for the retrievement and protection of their lands. There, Khĩsêtjê, Kawaiwete and Yudja leaders strengthened their alliance in defense of the Xingu and the Amazon. #Wawi20years Learn more: Datasheet: Realization: Khĩsêtjê Indigenous Association and Instituto Socioambiental Video: Kamikia Kisedje and Fred Mauro Aerial Images: Kamikia Kisedje Edition: Fred Mauro and João Feitosa Graphic Animation: Julia Lima Report: Isabel Harari Support: European Union Acknowledgments: To the residents of Khinkatxi village and all participants of the Wawi demarcation 20th anniversary celebration
