Why Did Beethoven Write Music He Couldn’t Hear Performed?

In this episode I celebrate the great pianist/conductor Daniel Barenboim’s 80th birthday discussing his performance of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata. I also ask the question why did Beethoven write this beautiful music when he had not only his deafness but also many other sicknesses he was dealing with at the end of his life.
