Man killed girlfriend to ’shut her up,’ prosecutors say

John McQueen has been found guilty of murdering his girlfriend and will be sentenced in May. Prosecutors successfully argued he killed Kelaina Atkins because, in his words, he wanted to “shut her up. McQueen was quoted during trial as saying “I knew she was going to keep [expletive] with me. You can only poke the bear so much,“ and “she was going to make my life a living hell.“ lead prosecutor Aaron Hubbard recited McQueen’s confession, in part, “She tried to scream when I first put my hands around her neck, which made me squeeze tighter.“
