Solar Eclipse Sounding Rocket Launches from NASA Wallops Flight Facility (Official Broadcast)

NASA will launch three sounding rockets for the Atmospheric Perturbations around the Eclipse Path (APEP) mission from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility during the April 8 total solar eclipse. The mission will study how the sudden drop in sunlight affects our upper atmosphere during the eclipse. The launch window for the mission is 2:40 p.m.- 4:05 p.m. EDT. Rockets are scheduled to launch approximately 45 minutes apart. Coverage of the mission will begin 10 minutes before the scheduled launch time. The Wallops region will be in 81% totality. The Wallops Visitor Center’s launch viewing area will be open from 1-5 p.m. for launch viewing and other solar eclipse related activities. This video is public domain.
