1996 Toyota JZX100 BN SPORTS kit 5 Speedwalkaround drive in and slide video
1996 Toyota JZX100 Mk2
One of the best Toyota sedans ever made that never came to the states is the Toyota Chaser JZX100. Mid size family sedan meets sports car, this is a perfect blend of daily driver practicality with fun handling and light sports car steering feel. The JZX was only offered in Japan and quickly became one of the most popular cars in their lineup. The JZX100 was built resilient, making it a fitting vehicle as a daily driver with a reliable and sturdy engine. Yet, the practicality was never limited to its solidity as the Mark II offered an enjoyable ride with plenty of comfort as well as decent levels of safety and security. This particular JZX we recently imported from Japan has a full BN Sports aero body kit including Bumpers, Fenders, flares and skirts. The body is in good shape the white paint shows nicely with a nice shine and gold flake. Body design is timeless and very retro mid 1990s.
The car has the perfect stance achieved by numerous modifications to the suspension. Firstly, full body adjustable Tein coil overs with swift springs are accompanied with Cusco upper control arms and Cusco camber arms. The fitment of the wheels looks really good, front wheels are weds kranze, rear wheels are SSR zwingers. Wheels have some rash and could use a polish but are straight and true. There is no vibrations or shaking at any speed and the car drives very comfortably. Other suspension bits include a CUSCO front strut bar and rear strut bar for better body rigidity. The bottom of the car is immaculate, there is no rust, the frame rails are straight, the jack points are not compromised. We recently refreshed the rear subframe and rear differential bushings with serial 9 brand polyurethane.
At the heart of the car is the 1JZ-GE. The JZX100 motor sent an estimated 280 horsepower to the rear wheels with the legendary turbocharged 1JZ-GE engine under the hood employing VVTi, Toyota’s Variable Valve Timing technology. Our particular car still has the stock turbo but has been enhanced by several modifications to up the power a bit and maintain reliability. Behind the BN sports front bumper is a massive mid mounted HKS intercooler. An HKS inlet pipe and filter have been added to the stock turbo for quicker and cooler spools. A oversized aluminum radiator was installed for cooling and maintains the factory shroud and fan. On top of the intercooler is a oversized oil cooler to help keep oil temps at bay. In addition, a gears catch can was added. Mated to the engine is a R154 5 speed manual transmission with a ORC (ogurac racing) twin disc clutch. The sound of this motor with the 3 inch full exhaust outback is tough to beat. Rear end had been upgraded to a tomei 2 way limited slip differential.
The interior of the car has not been heavily modified. The factory cloth seats and door cards are in great condition. The dash is not warped or cracked and presents nicely. Headliner is very clean, no signs of ever being smoked in and featured a sliding moonroof. All electronics in the car function as they should, the OEM steering wheel has been replaced by a sportier Nardi steering wheel. The car shows just over 103k Kilometers or 64k miles and they are verified / actual miles. A trust 5 speed manual shift knob has been added. The surround for the center ac vents is cracked and there are some scratches on the console as seen in the photos. In the center console is a blitz mstt turbo timer and a blitz dual port boost controller. Boost is currently set to 0.9 BAR. Air conditioning and heat are still present in the car and both function well.
