Historic rains are destroying the infrastructure of New York, USA! A severe storm dumped more than 7 inches of rain in less than 24 hours over parts of New York City on Friday, turning streets into fast-flowing rivers and halting subway service as water poured into underground transit stations. Heavy rainfall of up to 2.5 inches per hour was reported in some of the hardest-hit locations. As a result of the flooding, a number of roads were blocked, cars and several city buses were flooded. Subway, regional rail and air travel were suspended or severely delayed and at least one school in Brooklyn was evacuated during the storm. Extreme weather events like these show how quickly risks are changing in cities like New York as climate change increases rainfall and destroys existing infrastructure.
