Meet the artists | Kara Walker

The American artist Kara Walker unveils never-before-seen drawings that grapple with race, gender, and violence. The artist has shown her silhouetted depictions of plantation life in most of the world’s leading institutions. Her monumental fountain sculpture, “Fons Americanus“ exhibited at tate modern in London, depicting the transatlantic slave trade made global headlines and even an FKA Twigs’ music video. Now, Kunstmuseum Basel is revealing a lesser-known aspect of Walker’s prolific creative output: her drawings. Shot in her New York studio and at Kunstmuseum Basel, this episode of Meet the artists sheds light on one of the most intimate facets of Walker’s oeuvre. “Kara Walker.
