Who is Cleopatrick ???

Cleopatrick are an explosive young rock duo from Cobourg, Ontario. Just over a year ago, at the end of their high school careers, long time friends Ian Fraser and Luke Gruntz decided to start a band. The boys made the seemingly reverse decision to head to the recording studio before playing a single live show, and it paid off. Their first EP “14” started making waves in local scenes close to them after its release. Having been recorded in only 14 hours (hence the name) and with much of the material written the day of, the EP is especially impressive. Through vigorous promotion, the band has racked up a steadily growing following in their hometown, Cobourg, and parts of the GTA where they continually play well-attended. The two have become well known for their technically precise musicianship, catchy riffs and energetic shows. I recently caught their performance at The Moustache Club on November 11th where they played to a sold out crowd and trust me Cleopatrick did not disappoint. Flashing lights, meaty guitar riffs and hard-hitting drums had the crowd bumbling about. Despite Gruntz being unwell and literally taking shots of honey on stage to cope with an uncomfortable throat the live crowd energy was immaculate. There’s lots more in store for Cleopatrick, singer and guitarist Luke says. Their next release will seek to capture their true sound, and Gruntz suggests that since “14” they have definitely evolved, musically and lyrically. Lyrically, Luke says new material will be “…a lot more focused on the world around me, and i’ve definitely taken inspiration from the poetry I’ve been writing.” He says new Cleopatrick will deviate from the high-school state of mind and incorporate more reflection-based poetic passion. Audiences are ready and waiting, and it will be interesting to see where Cleopatrick’s new release takes them. Check out their EP “14“
