Design Cinema - EP 98 - Cinematic Lighting

In this episode, we focus on cinematic lighting. By treating photographic environments as physical film locations, we approach the image from a completely different mindset. Instead of thinking about how to paint, we focus on where to place stage lights. The lighting setup used in this episode is utilized by many Hollywood films. By placing a backlight behind the subject, it creates a silhouette that’s easy to read. For students who are learning, this process is less intimidating and places the emphasis on thinking rather than painting.
