People who were born and raised in economically disenfranchised communities are often told to “Make it big and get out of the hood.” In her new book, “Reclaiming Your Community,” real estate developer and urban revitalization expert Majora Carter argues historically excluded communities could be changed by a time-honored corporate practice, a talent-retention strategy. She advocates for building mixed-income housing, developing vibrant “third spaces” and helping homeowners maximize their property value.
