Bach - Preis und Dank from Easter Oratorio BWV 249 | Netherlands Bach Society

The triumphant final chorus of the Oster-Oratorium - recorded here for All of Bach with Jos van Veldhoven - is overtly inspired by the Sanctus from the Hohe Messe. Like the Sanctus, Preis und Dank has two contrasting parts - a homophonic first part and a five-part fugal second part. The chorus ends abruptly: probably Bach’s intention was to emphasise Christ’s victory over death.
