The 50mm allows you to get sharp portrait photography as well as a nice focal length for walking the streets. The 50mm lens gives you a nice compression ratio when shooting between f1.8 and f4 after f4 the 50mm 1.8 is still razor sharp with some compression noticeable. The nifty fifty is sharp all the way up to f10 after which it becomes a little less sharp but still professional.
