Pioneers In Science: Alvaro Pascual-Leone

Meet Alvaro Pascual-Leone, the Chief for the Division of Cognitive Neurology and the Director of the Berenson-Allen Center for Noninvasive Brain Stimulation at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Pascual-Leone is a pioneer in the study of the mechanisms that control brain plasticity, and he is a pioneer in noninvasive brain stimulation where he has used test subjects across the animal kingdom, including humans. His research has been critical in establishing the field of therapeutic brain stimulation in treating conditions such as epilepsy, Parkinson, autism, and drug-resistant depression. Pascual-Leone participated in the “Pioneers in Science Program“ at the 2018 World Science Festival. The “Pioneers in Science“ program gives high school students from around the globe rare and intimate access to some of the world’s most renowned scientists in a town hall-style discussion.
