The Keepers of Leopard Land

‘We are fighting to stop poaching. I became a ranger because I want to protect animals.’ This noble goal was set down by Gennady Khomyakov, an employee of the Leopard Land National Park in the Russian Far East. Together with his colleagues, they protect the Amur leopard from the hands of poachers. At the beginning of the 21st century, there were no more than 30 of these big cats on earth. But the care of the park staff and strict animal protection has borne fruit as the population has increased to 121 adult leopards. But the status of a specially protected area does not act as a hindrance to poachers as rangers often catch them red-handed.
