Easy ways to create jazz improvisation phrases (that sound great)

In my experience, one effective way to enhance your improvisation skills is to start with basic, context-free phrases utilizing a major scale. During this live session, we explored a five-note phrase ascending and descending the scale while paying close attention to the timing of each note.
