Sitting at the foot of an active volcano, the power station uses a process called direct air capture to suck CO2 from the atmosphere. The procedure mimics the natural process of storing carbon into the ground that would take hundreds of thousands of years to complete. The innovation is seen as a way of removing CO2, a major component of greenhouse gas, from the atmosphere to tackle global warming.
